Lukewarm blood stains the flag of red,
a glorious salute to those now dead.
A sickly sweet smell,
Death represents hell, and those who fell,
even though they did well, they now hear the bell.
It's the sound of death, a melancholy peal,
that darkness reveals and allows wounds to heal.
The permanent rest gets us all... even the best.
Patriotism brought this about and thoughts of them are banished with a pout.
Both sides grimace at the casualities of  one another.
Looking at what they have gained, their own losses, confidence's bane,
they ignore the shame. Unafraid to send their people to die, hesitating to ask
"Why?"
Children left as bastards and orphans cry out and shout
"Why?"
Why did it have to be my father, mother, sister, brother?
War provokes a gruesome lust in the hearts of men,
people once peaceful now violent then, and in the words written by my pen,
let the bloodlust die so we may begin again and put to rest now what occured then.

I wrote this while I was bored in high school i cooking class. Pretty old but everyone in RL has said that it's good so I wanna see some responses! Especially seeing how I can't draw for shit. Please let my verbal talents be my saving grace.
